Newsletter #11: Crying about writing for the remaining days of December & time being bullshit.
Plans and thoughts with words.
I decided that I am going to put out a newsletter every day from December 19-December 31st. On Christmas, paid Pity Partiers will get a Pity Party on Christmas Day and New Years Eve, so if you’re not in that crowd…maybe join us for the holidays.
Maybe I’m old, but time is just bullshit.
As someone who works in marketing, I know the emphasis that a new year holds for everyone. It’s the perfect time to ‘start over’ in many different senses, but it hasn’t ever worked for me. As an adult, I think of a new year as just another time when everyone pretends they will do things that they don’t actually stick to. During the winter, I would prefer to stay inside, do less and sleep more. So starting things in January really doesn’t work for me. You can decide when your ‘year’ begins regardless of what a calendar says.
I just need to say this so y’all don’t think I’m going to be pumping out any ‘goal setting’ content. I will be too busy writing “2022” on things and scratching it out to care about setting new goals. I already have goals. Also, resolutions/goals/challenges in honor of the new year are just another way to get you to spend money. Brands often face a drop in profit at the beginning of the year because people overspent on Christmas, so they’re just trying to get you to spend money you probably don’t have for the sake of ‘self-improvement’. Before you cash in on any product/program, ask yourself if you’re setting the goal because of said the product/program or if you actually need it. Chances are that the marketing team repping that product/program is just making you believe you need it.

“Sometimes, one or both parties aren’t even sure what they want at all. It can get terribly confusing — especially in a world where we are encouraged to put neat and tidy definitions on our relationships. Not every romance will fit perfectly into one.” - writer, John Paul Brammer.

Crying in the Sales Section
Switching gears from the usual capitalism-fueled content to tell you to help bail people out of jail who are separated from their families this holiday season for non-violent offenses.

Sometimes your business should just be your business.
Going on a podcast to talk about your love life probably isn’t a great idea.
